Born in 1869 in current Ukraine into a Ukrainian Catholic family, as a teenager attended Byzantine Catholic retreats by the Basilian fathers, inspiring her to become a religious. At 18 entered convent of contemplative Basilian nuns, the only women’s congregation of the Byzantine rite. After spending time with the Roman Rite Felician Sisters, founded the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate to fill the need for an active Byzantine order. Became the mother superior of the largest institute of women religious for the Byzantine Rite Ukrainian Catholics with a zeal for teaching, nursing the sick and visiting the needy, as well as promoting Byzantine chant and fitting adornment of churches. In 1902 the order numbered 128 sisters in 26 convents across the country with the charism: Serve your people where the need is greatest. In 1919, at the age of 49 and on the day she had predicted, she died of bone cancer amidst terrible suffering. Beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 2001.
